Coast to Coast Resources

Daily and cumulative walking distances (2012) A modification of A Wainwright's Reader's Log in "A Coast to Coast Walk" (1972) combining data from OS 1:50000 digital maps, route updates from the 1:25000 maps in "The Coast to Coast Walk" by Martin Wainwright and AW's original distances. The chart below is a summary of these distances.

Daily ascents have been derived by plotting the route on digital OS 1:50000 maps then using the ascent shown by Mapyx QUO v2 www.mapyx.com Notes: Day02 high level route via Red Pike, High Style, High Crag and Hay Stacks; Day03 via Calf Crag, Helm Crag and Grisedale Tarn.

OS Strip Maps can be downloaded as a pdf from www.walkingplaces.co.uk

"The Coast to Coast Walk" by Martin Wainwright (no relation) published 2010 is a 190 page (size: 13x21x1.5cm weight: 385g) guide that includes OS 1:25000 maps of the whole route in small sections. Although each map is only a narrow strip the detail is clear and each map has OS grid references so you can easily use a GPS to find your exact position - provided you do not stray too far from the path!
